The best thing about Stephania and Adam's wedding day was that they did what they wanted. They didn't feel pressured to have a traditional wedding just because it's what most people do, and that resulted in an extremely laid back, joy-filled day for the couple and all of their guests.
Stephania and Adam planned a 1920s glam themed wedding, and encouraged all of their guests to dress the part. When it came time for the ceremony, they nixed the typical unity candle or sand ceremony in exchange for something more personal: a peanut butter and jelly ceremony. The heart-shaped sandwich was prepared by their mothers at the beginning of the ceremony, and was washed down by the Bride and Groom with a shared glass of wine. It's a traditional they'll recreate on each of their wedding anniversaries.
For the end of the ceremony, they requested that I shoot their first kiss from behind them, so they could have a photo with all of their guests in it as well. The happy couple decided not to have a bridal party, which meant the entire portrait time was dedicated to creating some beautiful images of them as newlyweds.
I encourage all of my clients to reflect on different wedding traditions, and whether or not they reflect you as a couple. After all, it's the one day that is meant to revolve around you!
